About Air Academy MTB
The Air Academy High School Mountain Biking Team was formed in 2021. In our first year, we were a Division 2 team, with just 14 racers. The team has grown considerably since then; we are now a Division 1 team with 30 registered racers. Our team philosophy has always been one of encouragement. We are all-inclusive, we work hard, we have fun, and we compete as a team. We strive to overcome obstacles and always Dig Deep.
We are a Colorado High School Cycling League race team, but we are also a mountain bike club open to middle schoolers as well as high schoolers. If you are a student at Eagleview Middle School or Air Academy High School, and you are interested in mountain biking, we encourage you to contact us to learn more about Air Academy MTB.
Our spring rides are from March to May. These rides focus on fun and skills. We split into smaller groups based on rider skill level and endurance, so that everyone can have fun and ride at their pace.
We start our fall practices in mid-late July. For these rides, our high school racers will focus on race preparation and training. The work that athletes put into these sessions will pay off when it’s time to race. There are generally 4 races per year, every other weekend beginning in late August. Two weeks after that is the State Championship race, in late October, for those who qualify. For race schedules and locations, see the Colorado High School Cycling League website.
Our practices are on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in both the spring and fall. We also have occasional weekend rides, including local Colorado Springs rides and out-of-town adventures.
