Air Academy MTB is excited to announce that Josh Hudson is our new head coach. After founding the team in 2021, Coach Larry Dewitt led the team for 5 fantastic seasons. Under Larry’s leadership, the team has grown from a scrappy Division 2 team to a perennial championship contender in Division 1. But race results are just a small part of the legacy that Coach Larry leaves behind.

Athletes, coaches, and parents alike will tell you that Larry built a culture rooted in grit, determination, sportsmanship, hard work, and fun. One of his primary goals has always been to give high school students a memorable experience of teamwork, friendship, and togetherness — the feeling of being part of something special, something they will remember as one of the best parts of high school. Everyone associated with the team knows that Larry absolutely succeeded.

As Coach Andrea says, “When Coach Larry stepped up to start this team, he changed all our lives. Larry helped our students become more than just individual athletes. They became a team in the truest sense of the word, cheering each other on in success and supporting one another through struggles.”

As Coach Larry moves on to his next challenge, we offer our heartfelt thanks for everything he has done for all of us, and we wish him the very best. We hope he makes an appearance or two at practices or races this season!

Larry is now passing the torch to Coach Josh Hudson. Coach Josh has big shoes to fill, but he’s the right person for the job. Josh has served the team tirelessly since our very first season, and he brings a genuine joy for the sport that is contagious throughout the team. He cares deeply about the team and its members, and his leadership, hard work, and fun-loving attitude make him a natural fit for this role.

Naturally, he’s excited about what’s ahead: “Stoked to kick off my 6th year coaching and my first year as Head Coach of the Air Academy Mountain Bike Team!” says Coach Josh. “This team shows up with heart, grit, and determination to push past limits. We climb together, we grind together, and we Dig Deep! So proud of this team — and fired up for the race season ahead. Go Kadets!”
